Hailing from the warm climate of Africa, the essential oil of Opopanax is your go-to oil for chronic respiratory ailments, such as asthma and bronchitis. In fact, King Solomon referred to opopanax as the noblest of incenses in the Song of Solomon!
And Opononax is noble indeed...
A scent from another era, Oponanax is a grounding oil which has an earthy-sweet, balsam and wine like scent and root-like notes.
In ancient times, various cultures used Opopanax to guard against negative influences, strengthen the senses, and to increase awareness and intuition. Since biblical times, this oil has been a component of incense and perfumes.
With its relaxing and expectorant properties, Opoponax can address excessive mucous in the lungs and help calm the bronchitis cough. An important oil to have on hand during cold and flu season!
Note: Skin sensitizer, per Essential Oil Safety, 2nd edition by Robert Tisserand and Rodney Young (page 370), the maximum dermal use should be no more than 0.6%.
If you are making a blend with Opononax, consider these oils as good pairings:
